Hypnosis FAQs
Can I be hypnotised?
Yes. As I already mentioned you already have been – many times. Almost anyone can by hypnotised to some level. In order to enter hypnosis, or trance, all that’s involved is that you follow the instructions that are given to you and you allow yourself to enjoy the experience.
How will I feel in hypnosis?
It’s unique to each person. Experience of a trance state differs from person to person but you will almost certainly feel sensations of relaxation and comfort. Some people have a heightened awareness of everything that is going on around them, whilst others find that all external noises and distractions seem to fade away and the only sound that they hear is the voice of the therapist. It’s an incredibly personal and very pleasant experience.
There are many different levels of trance – from very light to very deep. You will only ever reach a level of trance that you are comfortable with. In fact, because some people only ever experience a light trance state, they sometimes think that they were not hypnotised at all.
Will I reveal any personal secrets or do anything against my will?
No, absolutely not. You can’t be made to divulge anything that you don’t want to, nor will you do anything that you don’t want to do.
Will I lose control in hypnosis?
No. You are in control throughout the entire process. You will only take in those suggestions that are useful and appropriate for you.
Will I remember what happened during hypnosis?
Yes, because you aren’t asleep or unconscious, you are aware of what is being said to you. In trance you continue to hear and think for yourself although there may be some details that you don’t recall – in the same way that you don’t remember all the details of a film you’ve watched.
Can I get stuck in hypnosis?
No you can’t. You are always in control of the hypnosis, so you can leave the trance state any time of your own free will, just as easily as you entered it.
